More frequent move updates required by USPS
To acquire and keep customers, you need to make sure your mail reaches them. The Postal Service, in an effort to
improve the percentage of deliverable mail, revised its Move Update standards in November 2008. The
revised Move Update standards mean mailers are required to undergo the periodic matching of a mailer’s
address records with customer-filed change-of-address orders as a way to reduce the number of mailpieces
that need forwarding or return.
Under the revised standards:
- Standard Class mailers: Standard Class mailers have to perform Move Updates on their lists
every 95 days. Previously, Standard Class mailers were not required to perform Move Updates.
- First Class mailers: First Class mailers must update their mail lists every 95 days instead of 185 days.
We can help mailers meet these standards, and save money in many other ways. Want to learn more?
